Our Fermentation Philosophy

At Leaven of Life, we believe fermentation is meant to be slow, intentional, and life-giving. Our sourdough is naturally leavened using an actively maintained starter, fermented over extended periods of time to allow the grain to transform as it was designed to.

We do not rush the process. Time allows enzymes to break down complex starches, supports natural preservation, and creates bread that many find easier to digest.

Just as we approach herbal tinctures with respect for the plant and the body, we approach bread as nourishment — not a shortcut product. Fermentation is not simply a technique; it is a tradition that honors patience, stewardship, and the life-giving processes God placed in creation.

Ingredients for Artisan Sourdough - Unbleached wheat flour, water, and salt.

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies - Unbleached wheat flour, organic chocolate chips (organic cane sugar, organic cocoa mass, organic cocoa butter), unsalted butter (local heavy cream), raw sugar, brown sugar (raw sugar, organic molasses), farm fresh eggs, organic vanilla extract, pure sea salt, baking soda, and baking powder.

We believe the best cookies start with the best ingredients. That's why every batch we make is crafted with care using only non-GMO, natural, and organic ingredients.

  • Butter: in-home churned from heavy cream from our local Country Creamery.

  • Eggs: gathered daily from our own free-range hens, fed by our local feed mill Snider's Elevator.

  • Sugar: we use pure raw sugar, and our brown sugar is made in-house by blending raw sugar with organic molasses.

  • Chocolate Chips: 100% organic, NO soy lectin.

From ingredient sourcing to the final bite, we hold to the highest standards, because real food should be simple, pure, and delicious.
